English Speaking Practice for Real Conversations
Speaking practice trains you to retrieve language, listen to another person and respond clearly. Short, repeated practice is more useful than waiting until every sentence feels perfect.
Practise situations you actually meet
Start with introductions, making plans, asking for help, explaining a problem and sharing an opinion. Rehearsing a familiar situation reduces planning pressure during the real conversation.
- Introduce yourself and ask a follow-up question
- Clarify a time, place or instruction
- Agree, disagree or suggest another option
- Tell a short story in a clear sequence
Useful conversational patterns
Clarifying
Do you mean the appointment is online, or should I come to the office?
Buying time
Let me think for a moment. I would probably choose the earlier option.
Checking understanding
So the deadline is Friday morning—is that right?
A ten-minute speaking routine
- Choose one situation and write three useful phrases.
- Record a 30-second response without reading.
- Listen once for meaning and once for one improvement.
- Repeat the response with that single improvement.
- Use a different detail so the language stays flexible.
